CRASH's Hitachi Base is located in a house on a university campus in the city of Hitachi, in Japan's Ibaraki prefecture. The campus sees over 4,000 students each day, with ages ranging from kindergarten age to university age (with the exception of elementary age students). The campus features all necessary utilities -- including electricity, water, and gas -- that volunteers are able to use as they need to for, say, cooking, showering, and washing laundry. The base features two bedrooms with two beds each. There are also futons available should the need arise.
A large part of the Hitachi Base's work takes place in the Fukushima prefecture north of the base. Teams are often sent to the city of Iwaki (about 50 kilometers / 30 miles away from the base). Specific work to be done changes constantly, sometimes at the last minute.
