Crafts, Coffee, and Chat Project

FUND: Community Fund

CCC is a small-group, interactive activity at the temporary housing units to draw out residents (craft), to build a new sense of community (coffee), and give residents an opportunity to tell their story and to receive much needed emotional care (chat). Some of the crafts which the residents do are: patchwork, felt handicrafts, knitting projects, Hoshino Tomihiro's picture framing, jewelry-making, and simple woodworking, including seasonal projects.

As this is a weekly activity done at several different temporary housing units covering the cities of Otsuchi and Kamaishi, the opportunity is great for CRASH staff to build meaningful relationships with the temporary housing residents, providing emotional care and having chances to share Jesus with the people through this program.

CRASH's Tono Base is currently heading up this project in conjunction with its Hope Café.

Aozora Kai

FUND: Community Fund

Aozora Kai is a support group program for survivors. Focusing on the emotional and psychological needs of the survivors, this program is constructed so that it helps survivors share their stories and create a sense of community and personal validation. The program also aims to minimize psychological damages such as suicide, depression, loneliness, low motivation, withdrawal, substance dependence, and domestic violence. As Aozora Kai partners with local churches, the hope is to create a channel to share Christ.

This is a 12 session program with material to go through as a group. Group leaders will be trained Christian leaders that will also be monitored every two months for progress. The plan is to start four Aozora Kai in temporary housing, and one in a church around the three selected bases. Aozora Kai has a component to discuss belief and faith so it can be developed into a Bible study. It is also designed to be facilitated by local pastors or believers, and therefore there will be opportunities to share the Gospel.

Partners

Ichinoseki Base, as well as other pastors and churches that would like to participate.

Fukushima Family Camp

FUND: Child Trauma Fund

The Fukushima Family Camp includes a five day Operation SAFE program for kids that involves stories, music, activities and the message that God cares for and loves them. OperationSAFE is much like an American Daily Vacation Bible School. This program will also free up the parents to receive spiritual nourishment and enjoy time with other adults.

CRASH's role is funding for the OperationSAFE program for children. It is meant to strengthen the long-term relationship-building and gospel-sharing efforts of Hokushin Calvary Church in their ministry to contamination area evacuees, and especially invest in the lives of the children of those areas. This camp will directly affect the lives of fifteen families who will attend as well as touch the lives of many others, such as relatives and friends connected with these families. It isn't hard to imagine how much it can mean to survivors living in fear of radiation and dealing with great loss to be cared for in the loving environment of a Christian camp.

Goal

300,000 yen

To Be Used For

Housing, food, and transportation for five Operation SAFE staff to be at the camp for five days.
